Build38 Mobile App Security Platform Benefits from the European Cybersecurity Competence Center Grant

The rapid growth of mobile applications has revolutionized the way we communicate, work, and entertain ourselves. However, this surge in mobile usage has also attracted a significant increase in cyber threats. In response to these challenges, Build38 has been awarded a grant from the European Cybersecurity Competence Center to optimize its mobile app security solutions – project name BUILDSAFEMARC -.

This funding will enable Build38 to enhance its security framework for mobile applications and risk management platforms, thereby fortifying Europe’s defenses against cyber threats. The “BUILDSAFEMARC” project is a cornerstone initiative aimed at assimilating new mobile application protection solutions for both Android and iOS platforms without necessitating extensive cybersecurity teams in companies and enhancing global knowledge and defensive strategies against diverse cyber threats.

Key objectives

  • Market assimilation of security solutions: Facilitating the integration of mobile app protection solutions that do not require substantial cybersecurity investments from companies. This allows businesses to focus their resources on product development and innovation.

  • Knowledge enhancement: Bolstering the understanding of mobile application protection across the globe, helping organizations to build robust defenses against cyber threats.

  • Protection against external threats: Develop solutions to shield mobile applications from external threats and attacks without requiring in-house cybersecurity expertise.

  • Transversal cybersecurity solution: Implement solutions that protect against reverse engineering and other attacks, ensuring the integrity and security of sensitive information.

Why cybersecurity investment is crucial

In today’s digital era, investing in cybersecurity is indispensable for companies. However, not all enterprises can afford large-scale investments in cybersecurity infrastructure. The BUILDSAFEMARC project addresses this gap by creating solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into any mobile application, thereby eliminating the need for companies to invest heavily in cybersecurity.

The optimized solutions cater to a wide range of sectors, including banking, financial services, personal identification, health, automotive, and government. This broad applicability will ensure that a diverse array of mobile applications is safeguarded against cyber threats. Christian Schlaeger, CEO of Build38, expressed his enthusiasm for the grant and its potential impact: “We are incredibly honoured to receive this grant from the European Cybersecurity Competence Center.

This funding is a testament to the critical importance of mobile app security in today’s digital landscape. With the BUILDSAFEMARC project, we are poised to revolutionise the way mobile applications are protected, making advanced security accessible to businesses of all sizes. Our solutions will empower companies to innovate confidently, knowing that their mobile applications and sensitive data are secure against evolving cyber threats.”

Enhancing EU cybersecurity competence

The BUILDSAFEMARC project aligns with the European Union’s objectives of improving cybersecurity resilience and competitiveness. By developing a technological solution capable of securing mobile applications easily, the project will contribute significantly to the EU’s cybersecurity value chain. In addition, the benefits are being reaped across different communities:

Integration with EU cybersecurity strategy and EU regulatory alignment

The project supports the EU’s cybersecurity strategy by enhancing the security of ICT solutions, including open-source technologies, as well as ensuring compliance with various European cybersecurity regulations.

  • Open-source obfuscator: enhances open-source obfuscation tools to add an extra layer of security to mobile applications.

  • Bug bounty programs: established programs to incentivize the identification and reporting of vulnerabilities, further strengthening the security of the developed solutions.

  • Directive 2016/1148: ensuring a high level of network and information systems security across the EU.

  • GDPR (Regulation 2016/679): implementing robust security measures for data protection.

  • Cybersecurity Act: strengthening the EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and establishing a certification framework for digital products and services.

Enhancing Build38’s Mobile App Security Platform

The grant has already facilitated the development of several critical security solutions:

  • Post-coding solutions for Android and iOS: enhanced security and integrity of mobile applications after development.

  • Open-source and premium obfuscators: making application code more difficult to reverse engineer.

  • Attestation service: verifying the integrity and compliance of mobile apps.

  • AI-Controlled RASP: developing adaptive Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) solutions.

Conclusion

The European Cybersecurity Competence Center grant represents a significant milestone for Build38 and the broader European cybersecurity landscape. The BUILDSAFEMARC project will not only bolster mobile app security, but also contribute to the EU’s strategic objective of creating a secure and resilient digital environment.

By providing innovative and easily integrable security solutions, Build38 is leading the charge in safeguarding Europe’s digital future.  By focusing on these comprehensive security measures, Build38 is set to enhance the resilience of mobile applications across Europe, ensuring a safer digital landscape for all.
